A 30th Anniversary Note from Steve Casey
This is a note to all my
clients, friends and family to let you all know that January 2008 marked
the thirtieth anniversary of when I officially began my business (Casey
Design) as a hands on Designer/ Craftsman.
Thirty years ago when I got started,
I was just a kid with no clue, a big dream and a determined wish. That
seems so long ago and at the same time it seems as though it was just
yesterday. The life I once dreamed about and worked towards has been
realized and much has happened on the journey. The short version of the
long journey is that I got started, got married, we bought a house and
land with some room to grow, built my dream shop, we had /have two great
sons (Perry 17 / Bryce 20 years old… YIKES!) and slowly over the years
transformed our place into a great space to live and work. I could not
have done any of it without the help and support of my wife, best friend
and partner, Janet. Many thanks to my main man Alex for all his years of
loyal and dependable service in the shop and for keeping the grounds
together. I must also thank my friends, family and of course my clients.
It was all of you who supported and sustained us in our unique chosen
lifestyle with every commission, job and piece of furniture produced
during all the years gone past. I want to thank you for all of your trust
and support and also for referring me to your friends and families. I have
done no advertising to speak of except for the creation and maintenance of
my website as your personal referrals have sustained a steady flow of
work.
These days I am still very much
"hands on" and specialize in Home Theater furniture and cabinetry. I also
still do original hand built furniture pieces as well as fine cabinetry
and millwork of all sorts. I have written two new articles that will be
published in the next few months for Fine Woodworking Magazine following
up an article and weblog done for them in 2006. I am compelled to share
what I have learned over the past thirty plus years and so I plan on
writing more in the future. I have come to realize that what I know and
have learned about my work has value not only for my clients but also for
those who are interested in woodworking and furniture making as a hobby
and profession. It is very gratifying to be able to pass it on to so many
through such a prestigious national publication.
I would like to take this
opportunity to also let you know that I am always interested in discussing
new work with you. I am always surprised to hear from clients that they
didn't want to bother me with projects because they may be too small or
that I might be too busy or not interested in looking at something they
might have in mind. I welcome all of your inquiries any time and want you
to keep in mind it is possible that we may in fact not be that busy. If
it's not right for me, I will certainly let you know and I will be
grateful for the opportunity. Also keep in mind that if I am busy at the
time you call, I always give my past clients special priority in my work
schedule and I will soon get to your project. If it's been a while since
we connected, I am always interested to hear back on how the work I did
for you has served you and how it has survived over time.
Below are some links to my website,
a pdf file of the 2006 Fine Woodworking Magazine article and a Fine
Woodworking weblog that documents the building of the piece in the photo I
have attached to this e-mail. The weblog documents the project from my
perspective on building work for myself that you may find interesting. I
would appreciate if you pass on the links to anyone you may think might
have an interest so we can keep the ball rolling for another thirty years
at Casey Design Inc.
I wish all the best to you and your
family. Thank you again for your patronage and I look forward to hearing
from you again now or in the future.
Sincerely,
Steve Casey 3/11/2008
